banned book challenge

My quilt is based on Fahrenheit 451. In 2008 Adams State College put on the play, and my son got the job of making the mechanical dog. It was the first production that showed the dog, and my son's version was quite frightening. This quilt is based on his dog, and includes a burning book in the background

“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther.... And one fine morning-- So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

My challenge quilt--based on The Color Purple. Purple represents the beauty of everyday life in the book, yet hate, racism, poverty, fear, oppression can prevent people from enjoying, or even seeing, beauty. I quilted these words in the purple circle, they're kind of hard to see, though. Maybe because we all know they're around, we just don't always see?
